A Note to Our Supporters
Before I began developing AnyRec, I was already a passionate follower of emerging technologies ever since HTC launched the VIVE VR headset in 2016. Experiencing VR for the first time was mind-blowing; I felt certain that nothing could be cooler. At the time, I believed that as long as we continued to see new applications and content, VR could spark a radical transformation in how we consume media.
But over time, that initial momentum began to stall. Aside from occasional blockbusters like Half-Life: Alyx, much of the XR landscape remains centered around staples like VRChat, Rec Room, and Beat Saber.
Don’t get me wrong, these are fantastic experiences and remain some of XR’s best use cases. However, they don’t offer the tangible, face-to-face interactions that are essential for broader adoption. I believe that for XR to truly become mainstream, it must enhance how we connect in shared physical spaces, not just remotely. When technology supports real-world interactions, people are more likely to adopt it, and their positive experiences can become a regular part of daily life.
That’s why the release of the Quest 3 in late 2023 reignited my excitement. Its passthrough capabilities opened up new possibilities for mixed reality experiences in the real world: think paintball, basketball, billiards, or arcade style games in your own living room. And these are just the beginning. There are surely new types of games and activities waiting to be invented, experiences only possible through XR.
I hope this short message gives you a better sense of the vision guiding AnyRec. Thank you again to all of our patrons. Your support confirms that we’re on the right path and gives us the momentum to keep pushing boundaries in the XR world.
With appreciation,
Jay
